Comprehensive Eye Exam Q & A

What is a comprehensive eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is like an annual physical for your eye. And like your annual physical exam, the comprehensive eye exam is focused on preventive care.

Unfortunately, many eye diseases develop without causing noticeable symptoms, and if left untreated they may cause permanent damage to your vision that may ultimately lead to blindness. The comprehensive eye exam is designed to assess the health and function of your eyes, as well as identify and treat conditions before they lead to serious vision loss.

How often should I have a comprehensive eye exam?

Dr. Arthur determines how often you should have a comprehensive eye exam based on your age, personal vision needs, and family history. In general, children without vision issues should have a comprehensive eye exam every one to two years, while adults between the ages of 20 and 40 without vision issues should have an exam every five to ten years. Because your risk of developing eye conditions increases as you get older, Dr. Arthur recommends a comprehensive eye exam for adults 40 and over every one to two years.

If you wear glasses or you’re at risk of developing an eye condition due to family history, Dr. Arthur recommends an annual eye exam to evaluate the health of your eye and assess for vision changes.

What can I expect during a comprehensive eye exam?

You can expect a thorough evaluation when you come to Perspective Family Eyecare for your comprehensive eye exam. Dr. Arthur utilizes modern technology to test vision and assess eye health.
